Garden Center Outlet – one year after the opening

By Othmar Ziswiler

In April 2014, the Garden Center Dietrich opened his own outlet store named “Garden-outlet XXL” (www.gardenoutlet.ch). This store is located only a few hundred meters from the main business.

Peter Dietrich had the idea to sell the leftovers from the Garden Center without the need to lower prices in-store through sales or promotions. Today one third of the products in the outlet are remaining stock out of the center and two thirds are products purchased specifically for the outlet. All articles sold in the outlet are no longer in stock in the Garden Center. The price tags are adjusted to the sale price, which is clearer for the customers instead of a percentage off the old tags.

There is no advice given and cash is the only method of payment that is accepted. The fittings and furnishings are basic and functional.

The experiences from the first year of trading are very good. They reached their goal of selling the remaining stock and because of the independent appearance optically and spatially, the image and the turnover of the main business have not suffered.

The Garden Center Dietrich and much more you will see during the IGCC Switzerland 2016 from 21st to 26th of august (www.igcc2016.ch).
